Herefordshire is a county nobody crosses on the way to somewhere else: it sits against the Welsh border, among cider orchards and black-and-white timber-framed houses, and there is no reason to pass through unless you stop. For learning a language, that lack of through traffic is exactly the point: nobody around you will try to speak your language.

The Cider Museum and the Black & White House are in Hereford, with the cathedral and its museum; further out there is Eastnor Castle, Llanthony Priory already on the Welsh side, the Brecon canal and a llama farm in the Golden Valley.
