On this farm stay in Ireland you live with a farming family on a working farm and take one-to-one English lessons with your teacher, who hosts you in their home. It is for adults and teenagers alike: under 18, the lessons always come with accompanied activities, and under 13 we add closer supervision (I explain it all further down). The farm formula comes in two versions: 10 hours of lessons + 5 hours of farm activities: €1,455 per week; 10 + 10 hours: €1,755 per week. Stays run by the week, from Sunday to Saturday, all year round. Je Suis Polyglotte, a language stay organisation based in France, sends you the family’s profile before you confirm anything.

“I hosted a student from France a couple of years ago and my daughter did an exchange. So she went to France for a month and then the girl from France came here for a month. And it was so much more fun. You get to explore your country again that you didn’t get to before. You get to teach someone some parts of your culture. It renews a sense of pride you have in Ireland. And just exciting to shape them and to teach them new things and to see the excitement.”

Where Does It Take Place? 📍
The host farms are in the Irish countryside, where you learn English with native speakers all day. The exact area is on the family’s profile, which you receive before you confirm, and it also tells you the nearest airport for the transfer.
“My student is very, very shy and quiet. So if I can get a smile out of him, that’s huge. And even his parents say, my son is very happy. I’m in touch with his parents every single day. Sometimes two, three times a day. I’m sending them pictures of what we’re doing every day. And the parents are so grateful and so happy. And it’s just exciting to see something through someone else’s eyes and to see the excitement in them. If you can do it, it’s fabulous. I’m happy to do it again.”

Frequently asked questions
How much does each formula cost?
All the prices are in the table above, per week with full board. With 10 hours of lessons the week starts at €1,155, but those 10 hours go with some activities or visits: with 5 hours of farm activities it comes to €1,455, with 10 hours to €1,755. Adults who want lessons only pay €1,380 for 15 hours. In the Dublin area, add €150 a week.
What is the minimum age? Is the farm stay open to adults?
There is no fixed minimum age: the stay is open to adults, teenagers and children. Under 13, closer supervision is compulsory (€150 a week), with an adult present at all times; under 16, the airport transfer is compulsory unless a parent travels with the student; under 18, the lessons always come with accompanied activities.
What is included in the farm formula price?
The price covers your room, three meals a day with the family, your one-to-one lessons and the hours of farm activities, always accompanied and with nothing extra to pay. Before you arrive you take a short online level test, and you leave with a progress report and a certificate of attendance. While you’re there, a regional manager is on hand and a helpline answers 24 hours a day. Travel and insurance are up to you; I can add the airport transfer, from €135 each way.
What is the minimum length of stay and when can I go?
One week at least, arriving on Sunday and leaving on Saturday, so six nights. You can come at any time of year and stay several weeks if you like.
Who is responsible for my child outside lesson hours?
Your child isn’t left to fend for themselves. They live with the family, and under 18 the lessons always come with farm activities, general activities or cultural visits, all accompanied. For under-13s we add Closer Supervision (€150 a week), so there is always an adult with them.
Are host families vetted?
Yes. Our Regional Managers have met every host teacher in person and seen their home before anyone goes to stay there.
What insurance covers the stay?
Insurance isn’t included, so before you leave it’s worth taking out your own policy for illness, accidents, lost belongings and cancellation; that way you’re covered if anything goes wrong.
What if the host family isn’t a good match, or I need to cancel?
If you don’t feel at ease with the family, tell the Regional Manager while you’re there and we arrange another family; most problems are solved quickly, because they often come from a misunderstanding. If you have to cancel, 28 days or more before arrival it costs you €250; from 27 days to a week before, half the price; in the last week, the full price. Sports and excursions are booked by the host well in advance and are usually non-refundable. If the family has to cancel, we find you another one.
Who is my contact during the stay?
Until you leave, I’m your contact. During the stay it’s the Regional Manager for the area, who is always available, and there is a 24-hour helpline for emergencies, at night too.
Is it a real working farm?
Yes: the families who host you live on a working farm. Depending on the farm, they keep animals and grow fruit and vegetables; the family’s profile, which you receive before you confirm, tells you what theirs is like.
What farm activities will I do?
You spend the day on the farm alongside your host: feeding the animals, collecting the eggs, learning to milk the cows and, in season, picking fruit and vegetables. In the farm formula you choose 5 or 10 hours of activities a week, on top of the 10 hours of lessons.
Will I have a private room?
Yes, you have your own room in the family’s home, and you have your three meals with them. A private bathroom is available as an option in some homes, for €180 a week.
How do I book the farm stay?
Write to me from the contact page or call me on +33 6 51 74 42 74, with your dates, your level and, if it’s for your child, their age. I send you the family’s profile with the proposal before anything is confirmed; if it doesn’t suit you, I look for another one. Once you confirm, payment is made one month before arrival, by bank transfer or card.
How does the airport transfer to the farm work?
We can arrange for you to be met at the airport nearest the farm (Dublin, Cork, Shannon, Knock or Belfast). The transfer is an option, from €135 each way; for under-16s it is part of the proposal, unless you travel with them. A member of the host family or a driver meets the student on arrival and takes them straight to the farm.
Will my child be alone or with other students?
They’ll be the only student in the house: our stays are one-to-one, one teacher and one student. That way English is the only language spoken at home, and there’s no one to slip back into their own language with.
Can the families cater for special diets?
Yes. When you book, we ask you for a detailed profile including any allergies, food intolerances or preferences (vegetarian, gluten-free, etc.). We then choose the family best placed to meet those needs; the special diet option costs €110 a week.
What level of English do I need?
Any level is fine, from complete beginner to advanced. The lessons are one-to-one, so the teacher works at the student’s real level and pace. Living on the farm and speaking English all day is often what helps people get past the fear of speaking, whatever level they start from.
